Appeals constitute an exclusive and specialized part of our practice. Few law firms have the appellate experience per capita of SGM, at all appellate levels.

Our appellate team has extensive experience in civil, administrative, criminal and all manner of public law matters, in the Supreme Court of Canada, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Divisional Court, and the Federal Courts.

Our appeals team is comprised of such senior appeal counsel as Marlys Edwardh, Howard Goldblatt, Steven Barrett, Louis Sokolov, Cynthia Petersen and Peter Engelmann. The team also includes Jill Copeland, who served as Executive Legal Officer to the Supreme Court of Canada from 2007 to 2010, and is able to provide clients with effective advice and counsel in relation to appeals. Several other lawyers, Emma Phillips, Colleen Bauman and Kelly Doctor clerked for the Supreme Court of Canada prior to joining our firm.

Our litigators are assisted by the members of our highly skilled research group, who have vast experience in preparing oral and written arguments in complex appeals.
