December 10: International Human Rights Day

December 10 is International Human Rights Day.

SGM's offices in Toronto and Ottawa will be participating in the Amnesty International Write for Rights writeathon.  On December 10, we will be writing cards to prisoners of conscience and others affected by human rights violations around the world, as well as letters to governments to appeal for the release of prisoners, justice for people affected by human rights abuses, and the adoption of practices consistent with international human rights standards.

If you would like to participate in the International Write for Rights, go to www.writeathon.ca.

SGM also recently held its 3rd Annual Just Results Auction, which benefits Stephen Lewis Foundation. The auction is really two auctions in one - a silent auction of items donated by lawyers and staff members, and a live auction in which people bid to have lawyers do things for them (eg., buy flowers, pay for lunch, buy a cake on their birthday) or make fools of themselves (eg., sing, act out a scene in a movie) at the firm's holiday party. This year staff and lawyers raised over $10,000 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
