Charlene Wiseman

Charlene Wiseman is a member of SGM’s research team. She articled with SGM and joined the firm following her call to the Bar in 2001.

Charlene conducts legal research, provides advice and engages in written advocacy in most of SGM’s practice areas, including labour law, administrative law, human rights law, constitutional litigation, public interest litigation, civil litigation and class actions. She is also very involved in client and community legal education, and writes and speaks regularly on developments and issues in labour, human rights and Charter law.

Some of the cases that Charlene has worked on include:

  • Heintz v. Christian Horizons [2010] O.J. No. 2059 (Div. Ct.);
  • Reference re Employment Insurance Act (Can.), ss. 22 and 23, [2005] 2 S.C.R. 669
  • Hill v. Hamilton-Wentworth Regional Police Services Board, 2007 SCC 41
  • Rogers v. Sudbury (Administrator of Ontario Works) (2001), 57 O.R. (3d) 460 (S.C.J.)
  • Broomer v. Ontario (Attorney General), [2004] O.J. No. 2879

Charlene received her law degree from the University of Toronto. She also has a bachelor of arts degree from McGill University.

Charlene is a member of the Ontario Bar Association and the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers.  She has also served on the Board of the Fred Dowling Housing Cooperative and volunteered with the Pathways to Education Program and Supporting our Youth.
