Doug LeFaive is a member of SGM’s pension law group. He articled with SGM and joined the firm after his call to the Ontario Bar in 2000.
Doug practices in the area of pensions and benefits, with a particular focus on multi-employer pension plans. He serves as legal counsel to several multi-employer pension plans, including both jointly-trusteed and union-trusteed plans some with members from more than one union. Doug’s practice also includes representing unions and individual plan members in their dealings with single-employer pension plans.
Doug is a member of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario’s Multi-Employer Pension Plan Advisory Committee, a member of Pension Planning’s editorial board and a former member of the executive of the Ontario Bar Associations’ pension and benefits section.
Doug is a regular speaker on a variety of pension-related topics. Prior to practicing in the area of pensions and benefits, Doug practised in the area of labour law and represented CUPE at the Walkerton Commission of Inquiry.
Doug received his law degree from the University of Toronto in 1998. He also has a bachelor of journalism degree, with high honours, from Carleton University.
